Dre Parker and his mother Sherry live in Detroit, USA. Sherry gets a new job in China so they move to Beijing. Dre makes friends with a girl named Mei Ying. She is a violin player.
But a boy named Cheng doesn’t want Dre to be friends with Mei Ying. He tells Dre to stay away from her. Dre plays a trick on Cheng and his friends and they chase him. They catch Dre and beat him up. Dre is rescued by Mr. Han, the maintenance man from Dre’s apartment building. Han is a kung fu master and easily defeats Cheng and his friends.
Dre asks Han to teach him kung fu but Han refuses. He agrees to help Dre go to make peace with Cheng and his kung fu teacher. Li teaches his students to show no mercy to their opponents but Han doesn’t believe that Li teaches real kung fu.
Master Li agrees to tell his students to leave Dre alone, but only if Chung and Dre fight at an upcoming kung fu tournament. Han promises to teach Dre real kung fu.[hr color=”gray”]
